What makes you think the timing chain is bad? Also, if the timing chain is stretched, you will need to check the cam wear. Clymer sells a manual for about 17 US dollars. It is a pretty good manual. I think on the Savage that you are in luck because you don't have to split the cases in order to remove the chain. I think you might have to remove the engine from the frame though. I could be wrong. Justin is a mechanic on this forum. I'm sure he can answer all your questions.
